The Oregon Chapter of The Wildlife Society, Oregon Zoo Wildlife and Lead Outreach Program, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife will partner with the Albany Rifle and Pistol Club to host a free non-lead shooting event. Shooters can compare lead and non-lead ammunition performance, shoot non-lead ammunition in their personal rifles, and discuss the concerns about lead ammunition. Lead bullet fragments can remain in game meat and gut piles, creating a known health hazard for scavenging birds such as eagles and possibly for humans.

We’ll have a variety of non-lead ammunition in common calibers to try. Bring your own rifle and favorite hunting ammo, and see how non-lead ammunition compares. We’ll also test bullet performance by shooting into water barrels and gelatin. A limited supply of non-lead ammunition of different brands and bullet weights will be available in these calibers:

.223 Remington
.243 Winchester
.270 Winchester
7mm Remington Mag
7mm-08 Remington
.308 Winchester
.30-06 Springfield
.300 Winchester Mag
6.5 Creedmoor
375 H&H Magnum
.30-30 Winchester
.17 HMR

Come and join us for a free, informative, and hands-on event. Oregon hunters have a strong history of conservation and we hope this event will continue this great tradition!
